The gradient of polarity of z gene nonsense mutations in trp-lac fusion strains of Escherichia coli.

چکیده
The polarity gradient of a series of nonsense mutations in the z gene of the luc operon has been determined in tr;D-lax fusion strains. The results described in this paper suggest that the general nature of the polarity gradient generated by nonsense mutations in a given cistron is a function of their location within this cistron and is not determined by the position of the cistron within the operon.

New polarity suppressors in Escherichia coli: suppression and messenger RNA stability.
Two new polarity suppressors (Su27 and Su78) have been isolated in Escherichia coli. Both suppress polarity in the trp and lac operons, and neither shows codon specificity for suppression. Extreme polar mutants of the lac z gene that contain either Su27 or Su78 make mRNA from the entire operon; however, no active beta-galactosidase is translated from the z-gene messenger, and the amount of dist...
متن کاملStudy of Mutations in the DNA gyrase gyrA Gene of Escherichia coli
Quinolones are a large and widely consumed class of synthetic drugs. Expanded-spectrum quinolones, like ciprofloxacin are highly effective against Gram-negative bacteria, especially Escherichia coli. In E. coli the major target for quinolones is DNA gyrase. This enzyme is composed of two subunits, GyrA and GyrB encoding by gyrA and gyrB, respectively. Mutations in either of these genes cause qu...

متن کاملHigh frequency of mutations in gyrA gene associated with quinolones resistance in uropathogenic Escherichia coli isolates from the north of Iran
Objective(s): Regarding the global burden of uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) infections, prevention and treatment of such infections play a significant role in healthcare management. The inordinate use of fluoroquinolones led to a worldwide spread of quinolone-resistant strains. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate mutations in codons 83 and 106 of gyrA gene in UPEC isolates in the ...
متن کاملEvaluation of the antibiotic resistance and prevalence of uropathogenic Escherichia coli and detection of traT gene in isolated from patients referred to Abadan hospitals during 2017-2018
Objective: Escherichia coli is one of the most important causes agents of urinary tract infection in human. Thus, identification of Escherichia coli resistance patterns seems to be necessary. traT gene has been reported variable in Escherichia coli strains isolated from urinary tract infection. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of uropathogenic Escherichia coli ...
